WE ARE ARUURI
Aruuri is redefining how communities fund their own future. Starting in the Horn of Africa, we are building a tech-enabled, transparent platform that transforms fragmented diaspora giving into a pooled engine for economic resilience

CAREERS

We're still in our early days and shaping Aruuri with our community. Here are some of the questions we're hearing most.
Aruuri is a community-funded platform that pools contributions from the diaspora to support trusted, locally led projects across the Horn of Africa. We focus on healthcare, education, and livelihoods to help the most vulnerable build long-term resilience.
Together, we turn collective giving into lasting infrastructure across the Horn of Africa.
Become a contributorEach year, billions flow back to the Horn of Africa through remittances and donations - one of the largest informal development systems in the world.
Yet much of this generosity operates without shared infrastructure. Donors lack visibility. Local organisations lack predictable, long-term capital.
We focus on the Horn of Africa because the need is both urgent and structural. Communities across the region face recurring climate shocks, youth unemployment, displacement, and limited access to healthcare. Recent reductions in international aid have made fragile systems more exposed than ever.
We believe diaspora generosity is powerful. But generosity alone cannot build lasting institutions. Aid can respond to crises — systems create stability.
Nonprofits and grassroots organisations are essential to that work, and we partner closely with them. But lasting resilience also requires structured funding, accountable partners, and stronger public institutions over time. Aruuri was built to help bridge that gap.
Through pooled monthly contributions, rigorous partner vetting, verified partnerships, and a live public ledger, we transform informal giving into coordinated, accountable capital.
We are not a one-off campaign platform. We are not a crisis response. We are building sustainable, community-owned funding infrastructure across the region.
Aruuri was founded by people with direct ties to the Horn of Africa - practitioners, researchers, and community members who have seen firsthand what accountable capital can and cannot do. We are committed to serving the most vulnerable responsibly and for the long term.
Our goal: To impact one million lives through predictable, community-powered capital.
“WE ARE BUILDING THE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR TRUST”
We’re building something long-term, with a small, focused team and high standards.
Aruuri is bootstrapped and volunteer-led. Everyone here chooses to be here. That means we value people who take ownership, move with intent, and care deeply about the mission.
We operate with an end-to-end ownership mindset, every person is an individual contributor, responsible for driving their work from idea → execution → outcome.
We keep things simple, structured, and low-noise, clear roles, clear systems, clear expectations.
If you want to work on real-world problems with a small, committed team, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re actively working towards turning these into paid part-time roles as we secure sustainable funding.
We’re currently building out the Growth team - individuals who can own their area end-to-end and help us move from early traction to a sustainable system.
Each role is part-time and volunteer-led at this stage.
Closing date for applications: Thursday 16th of April (5pm BST)
